Augmented Reality Showcase

German Federal Ministry of Education and Research
Augmented Reality
Hannover Expo 2011

Seeing what others cannot. Augmented reality’s potential is unique.
As part of a research project, NMY and the Fraunhofer Institute for Graphic Data Processing presented interactive use cases on the exhibition stand for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. During the five day long expo, visitors were able to glance into the new virtual world using an iPad 2.

Research and experiments with the newest technology are part of the agency’s philosophy. NMY is today already very well placed to offer its clients virtual communication concepts for augmented reality.
NMY has been participating in the LIFE-BC project since the beginning of 2011. The project covers developing and investigating augmented reality solutions on mobile terminal devices in the field of facility management*.

*Building Information Models (BIMs) are becoming ever more important in facility management. In addition to architectural models, BIMs also include infrastructure as a whole, e.g. pipe systems, electrics and insulation. Connecting this information with virtual/augmented reality technology offers great potential if information on building planning and maintenance is based on 3D models and this information can be accessed on mobile systems (e.g. smartphones) throughout the building complex.
